3M和Shale-Inland联合宣布，推出新系列的金属制造激光防护胶带：3M激光防护胶带。这出品能为各种不锈钢、碳钢、铝板的表面加工，提供激光切割和存储过程中的临时保护。该系列是首个面向金属制造市场的产品平台，也是3M跟Shale-Inland于去年12月签署的商业化协议的产物。

3M 工业粘合剂和胶带部副总裁兼总经理 Mike Roman 表示，3M激光防护胶带是一种白色的聚烯烃薄膜，表明涂有高性能粘合剂系统。不同于传统防护胶带的是，这种激光防护胶带集薄膜和粘合剂于一体，能够防止边缘充气裂开和激光切割带来的其它问题。

Shale-Inland 首席执行官兼董事长 Craig Bouchard 也指，该系列产品的粘合技术，提供了可靠的表面附着力，具有优良的热稳定性。其独特的薄膜构造为加工过程提供了额外的保护，并且比以前的这类胶带更容易剥离。产品交货时间也将大大缩短，因为这款胶带将在北美进行制造，不同于市面上的其它激光胶带。3M 激光胶带还具有环保的特性，这一新系列产品在生产过程中不会产生挥发性有机化合物 (VOC)。他形容新的 3M 激光胶带，是他们见过的最好的防护胶带产品。
